Pietermaritzburg World Champs 07/23/2010
We flew over on Thursday and my 2010 World Championships lead up has begun. W 3 hours to Sydney, 2 hour stop over, 14 hour flight to Durban, 3hours of being shown where to go by South African guys at airport and then them asking for money and then an hour flight to Pietermaritzburg. The big flight was quite empty, and I spotted a row of 4 seats empty so tried to claim in but some lady sprinted there before me. So had a good time not being able to stretch out and sleep in awkward positions. It wasn’t too bad flight though, could have been a lot worse. Today we woke up and got our stuff for the day and then headed to the showground’s where the worlds track is. It looks real good, not to big first straight but 2nd straight looks decent. It’s going to be fun. We went to Golden Casino track after that. It is a fun little track to play around on with long ass straights. We started doing some gates until there were about 5 of us on the gate and it decided not to drop. I committed to the snap and smashed my hip and hand. Bike ended up having 4 spokes snapped and flat tire. Good start to the trip haha, shit happens. We went the Butchers Block for tea, and it is amazing. A 300g Fillet Steak for under 25nz. Probably the best restaurant I have ever been too, sorry bollywood. Wi-Fi here is 300rand for 3days, something like 60NZ so it isn’t cheap at all, so no internet for me for a bit. Keep you updated on what’s happening. Laters summer, sup winter. 07/20/2010
Last day in America today and in summer L We ended up being dropped off at the airport at 3, flight boards at 11, 7 hour boredom session at the airport listening to, “attention passengers, welcome to LAX airport, please make sure you maintain visual contact with your luggage at all time, do not leave baggage or other items unattended, thank you for your cooperation” then in Spanish every 15minutes. Great success. Qantas being the most difficult they could be my bike bag weighed 25.2, so they made me take a kg out and put in another bag, weighed hand luggage and just not giving any allowance at all. Qantas <3. Trent managed to get off with 15kgs over on AirNZ and we couldn’t even get off with 2kg. And going to South Africa on Qantas so cannot wait. We went to Hollywood before coming to the Airport, got to see the stars and Hollywood sign on mountain and Michael Jacksons star so was still pretty cool. Would be good to one day do full day tourist thing there but out 1hour boost through it was still fun. Super happy I ended up going to America, my confidence riding wise has gone through the roof and feeling so good now that I have had 2weeks of being on my bike training with other riders. Thank you to mum and dad for paying once again but it is something that will definitely pay off. Weather was amazing all the time in Murrieta, San Diego was a bit depressing with the sea fog but all in all was an extremely good time, and got a slight tan haha. I have 5 days in NZ before I head to South Africa so hopefully it’s not too cold for me when I’m home. Something different about this trip that is going to be extremely inconvenient is that we are only allowed taking one bag that weighs 23kg. Usually i take at least two bags with 20kg+ in both so with a cruiser this is going to be interesting and probably quite expensive. Other than that in South Africa, the team seems to have everything organised and will make it a gooood time. Flight leaves Thursday and I arrive Saturday and just completely skip Friday haha trippy as. Lets just hope there is no one next to me and can lax out, but as Qantas being Qantas they probably have overbooked. Thats all for now, I will add pics of trip, got a bit more less random photos this time haha. Back to Murrietta 07/13/2010
Had a good week training and feeling super confident for Worlds now. We were really lucky with weather especially wind as it didn't rain and wind wasn't being crazy. Im back at the house now having good times in the sick weather preping for worlds. I really am not in essay mood so I will leave yo with video I tried to make on WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER hahahaha. San Diego 07/05/2010
We drove to San Diego and staying at the Best Western which has wireless that can reach my laptop so its fair to say its a good little hotel/motel thing. It was July 4th, Independence day here so we decided to go to the beach to join the whole festive vibe, Sarah managed to gain 50 dollars for taxiing drunk people to the beach when we were finding a park and then find a park really close to beach. There was a huge amount of people all being loud and happy. We went to a Yogurt bar thing where you choose whatever you want in your bowl and gets weighed at the end, i managed to rack up $8 US of it, but trust me it was worth it. It was like a McFlurry but with strawberry and gummy worms and bears haha. There was a fireworks display by Sea world, for America I expected so much better but they were still pretty sick. I tried to take some photos but all failed. Riding at big track and chilling there for the week. AMERICA! 07/04/2010
Flew to LA today/yesterday/tomorrow (one of them), Air NZ was really expensive so we ended up going on Qantas. I will end it there, not the most memorable flight. Got through customs, not with too much hassle, once again got asked “what’s bmx?” by the customs guy. Sarah picked us up from LAX to drive to Murrieta where I will be chilling for a bit before I go hit other tracks up. Its about 31 degrees here which is huge difference from the 10 degrees winter in gizzy, no complaints though. After getting an American pancake breakfast we started setting up bikes etc. Headed to Lake Perris for a ride on that track which is always fun, especially when jetlagged and riding loose as. I survived this time. I don’t know how long I have been awake but this has been one long ass day. Just to give you a picture on what it looks like around here, sort of reminds me of desperate housewives street. Tairawhiti Sports Awards 07/04/2010
The Sports awards in Gisborne have been, pleased to say that BMX did extremely well with my dad winning Coach of the year, Gisborne BMX club winning Club of the year and myself I won the Junior Sportsman of the year. But something that took me by surprise was wining overall sportsperson of the year (not that my speech sounded it haha), with such names as Hosea Gear and Brendan O’Connor I just thought I would be in there just for nominations but I won it so that was pretty cool that bmx is being recognized. Got to wear Suit again and do speeches in front of reasonable size crowd and get a photo with the Mayor haha, plus a hell of a lot of photos for the paper. Flying out to America in the morning, its 12 30am now and leaving to Auckland in about 8 hours and still haven’t packed, hmmm good sleep on the plane for me I think. Leave you with some pics of the Award Night. Thank you Infamous Designs! 07/04/2010
Infamous Designs printed off a neck brace sticker and some new website stickers which all look sick! Huge thanks to them. If you’re looking for someone to print/design stickers or actually anything to do with painting and designing etc I recommend going to them, they do a sick job and are all for the sport. Also Justin painted one of my old helmets, and doing it all freehand he is pretty damn talented at that, I may have a pic.. Maybe later haha. ok photos dont want to go on, shot weebly, hopefully put them Change of plans.. again. 06/16/2010
So I am going to America now to meet up with the team for the Chula Vista camp on July 2nd then come back to NZ for few days then go to South Africa on 21st July (I think). Im going to get actual photos this time, not all of random shit that is totally pointless haha. I have been really lucky here with the weather other than being FREEZING, its being quite good compared to everywhere else in the country and track is handling the beating pretty good. Finally bought some rollers, took me a bit to get used to them but its fine now. Got the setup down in the shed for when mother nature wants to have a cry. Did a downhill sprints session with the sheep and cows. It seems to be the only place where theres no crazy drivers who want to kill you or that a straight hill too. Got alot of wierd looks from the farmers driving past and the cows and sheep were just roaming around the road. haha good times. Latest 06/06/2010
Weather is playing up lately and its been raining quite a bit, shot winter. Been squeezing in track session as much as I can. Got the gate at home set up at the track, I have been able to get some good gate sessions in, and tracks holding up alright so things aren't too bad. I was meant to be meeting up with the team in America for Pre worlds training camp in Chula Vista but with going to Europe and Now South Africa for World Championships we just don't have the money for me to go. If there's anyone reading this and would like to sponsor me to go, it would be greatly apreciated :) Currently got Justin Nepia doing a paint job on one of my old helmets, pretty excited to see what he can do as his boards all look pretty dope. Changed some stuff on site again, did some photoshoping on a sunday night haha. Thats all for now. Its been a while.... 06/06/2010
Havent updated in a while, starting to turn into Craig Pattle I think haha. Copenhagen SX was amazing, track flowed soo good. Time Trial wasnt too good, was going alright up to the 3rd straight Rythym and lost all my speed finished out of qualifying so I had my 2 laps of racing. I wasnt to happy at all how I rode but thats just how it is. Really happy though that I went on this trip, the confidence I gained on the Supercross track was huge and racing at South Africa Worlds is going to be alot easier to adapt to the track. Im not in the essay mood so I will leave you with some photos from the whole trip. Next time im actually going to take less random photos and more of actually where we were haha. BAM RECORD.
