Copenhagen World Champs 2011 08/02/2011
Well the 2011 World Champs are done and dusted for another year and my final race in Junior men. The track was beautiful, rode amazing, it was the dream track. Practices were extremely short for this with 60 minutes to get an entire track sorted compared to the usual 3hours at a SX race. So you had to be on point STRAIGHT away, and managed to get pro straight first go and rest of track sorted with half hour to spare, so then it was time to get shit dialed in. My Time Trial was rough with so much mistakes but still got through to racing, which was my focus, not pointless time trials. Got some serious demons to get over in the time trial area. Had some pretty deep thoughts that night and felt confident for the next day. We had a few hours to spare before racing so got some good songs playing loud in the room to get pumped. Got everything sorted and it was time for practice/warm up. Felt great on the track, calm and confident and I knew then that it was going to be a good day. In my motos (heats) I had Trent Woodcock (other Jnr Kiwi) and some other shredders from around the world. Got lane 6 for first Moto and after a shitty nervous gate managed to get the hole shot and win the first moto. Second moto got the squeeze and ended up in 5th. Managed to not let it get to me that I basically needed a top 2 finish to make it through, and got a solid gate finishing 2nd and advancing through to Quarter Finals (top 48). I was pretty happy to get to here, but by all means not happy to settle with just making quarters. Had an ok gate but got the squeeze again, managed to stick with it and basically cannon balled my way through the corner rubbing elbow with a few riders and coming off best finishing 4th. That meant I transferred onto semi finals (Top 16). Again I was happy to make it this far but no way not wanting to finish here. I knew I had to get a good gate to get through pretty much. Semi's approached and I was feeling strangely calm, something had just clicked and I knew I was in the right head space and feeling the best in my life. Sitting on the gate waiting for the gate to drop was a weird experience. I wasn't too nervous, but calm and relaxed even in the situation I was, which in other times I would have freaked out. The gate dropped and I had a super solid gate, which was crucial with lane 6, sorta over shot 1st jump but was still in 3rd, then into corner slightly over shot and french kid get in the inside of me. I end up hitting the french kids back tire and my bike completely washes out in front of me with another french kid to run me over. game over. Basically didn't know what to think at this stage. Happy because I got this far, but disappointed, I hadn't been training this hard to just get to semi finals and when I knew I could have got further. But that's just how racing is to be quite honest. There were a lot of positives I can take from this experience and it's these I need to use to move on, and not dwell in the the disappointment. Felt a lot better on the Sunday, hearing the news that My sister Abby had Won the title for 13-14 Girls Cruiser and Monique taking 2nd in 15-16 girls cruiser. Overall, This trip was one of the best I have been on, I had an amazing time and an experience I will never forget. 1 Comment Switzerland 07/25/2011
Had a camp in Aigle, Switzerland as a pre camp before worlds and to get used to the big ramp and acclimatise. Aigle is a pretty isolated town in the middle of nowhere right under the swiss alps. We stayed in a ghetto little hotel, where a few years back the elevator failed on them and dropped to the basement floor, so I was a little sketched out using it. The track is a fun backyard type track but jumps were perfect size to have a good time on. The track is based at the UCI World Cycling Center which is an amazing facility. There was a huge indoor velodrome, with and inside track, which had a practice start gate, a gym, restaurant, basically everything you need to train. We were riding the track with the French team, the World Cycling team, Swiss guys and some Canadians. So it was pretty intense on the track with a lot of riders. The camp went really well and I'm excited and confident for the world champs now. Made a little video of some experiences, was meant to get some track footage in there but didn't get around to getting the vids, its something. Good old windows movie maker has managed to make the video look like a videoed it with a calculator. shot. Olympic Museum 07/24/2011
We took a trip to Lausanne, Switzerland to the Olympic Museum which has the largest archive of the Olympic Games in the world. We decided to do a tour, and we got an ipod with headphones and we got a guided tour which was pretty cool. Such an inspiring place, seeing every torch, medal and many other things from every single Olympic games. Some of the highlights were seeing the Original Dream Team Basketball which was used in the final in the 1992 olympics, signed by everyone of them. Usain Bolts original shirt that he used to smash the world record and win gold and Jesse Owens original shoe he used at the Controversial 1936 Summer Olympics. Huge inspiration, and hopefully I will one day be in that museum. Photos weren't allowed but took some spy shots. Nice Knowing You :p 05/21/2011

It had been in my mind for about a year now, wondering what would happen if I actually tried hucking this entire thing ( about 13.5m). I had done one jump that I didn't think was possible so I thought why not give it a shot. After 2 no-doz I was fizzing and wind was perfect, track was a bit wet but thought its now or never. Well this how it turned out, not how I wanted it to go but went exactly how I thought it was going to go. | Nick Fox
